Promotion Guidelines

Trivia Promotions

All ranks below Captain are gained through answering trivia questions, the following explains the number of trivia points required for each rank.
Ensign Grade
The rank grade of Ensign is the most junior trivia rank in the site. It is awarded to members who have between 1 and 20 trivia points.


Lieutenant Junior Grade Grade
The rank grade of Lieutenant Junior Grade is the second most junior rank in the site. It is awarded to members who have between 21 and 75 trivia points.


Lieutenant Grade
The rank grade of Lieutenant is one of the first ranks in Section 47 that allow a member to hold certain positions, Lieutenant ranked members can run for Fleet Rep and may apply for most Junior CSS Positions. It is awarded to members who have between 76 and 135 trivia ponts.


Lieutenant Commander Grade
Lieutenant Commander Grade is the first of the command ranks in Section 47. An member on this rank scale can be considered for First Officer positions and take the Command Training Courses. It is awarded to members who have between 136 and 210 trivia points.


Commander Grade
The rank grade of Commander is one of the most common and senior ranks in Section 47. Most members will eventually get to this level and will be eligable to hold First Officer positions, and to be considered for Commanding Officer roles. Commanders also tend to fill many of the Junior CSS positions, and Senior CSS members usually hold this rank upon entering CSS. It is awarded to members who have between 211 and 350 trivia points.


Commander First Class Grade
The rank grade of Commander First Class is the final and most senior trivia gained rank in the site. Members with a long service history will typically hold this rank, which carries the same benefits of the Commander grade. It is awarded to members who have over 350 trivia points.


Meritorious Promotions

The following is a guide to the criteria and requirements that CSS will use when considering officers for promotion. General requirements for promotion to any rank are:
• Being held in good regard in the site
• Providing Section 47 with a service of some kind
• Officers must be nominated for promotion by either a CSS member or Fleet CO. Promotions above Rear Admiral can only be nominated by either the Section Admiral or Site Executive Officer or the Site Second Officer.


Captain Grade
The rank grade of Captain is the first meritorious rank awarded in Section 47. Typically this rank is given to officers in command of starships and/or starbases and may also be awarded to CSS members. The following is the suggested criteria for promotion to Captain:
• Holding the rank grade of Commander or Commander First Class
• Assigned as the full CO of a ship and/or starbase by CSS
• A CSS member, who is also an XO, who has provided a good level of service
• An XO serving under a CO who is ranked as a Rear Admiral or above (in this instance, the XO would become a Flag Captain and would be inferior to a Starship Captain).


Commodore Grade
The rank grade of Commodore is the second meritorious rank awarded in Section 47. Typically it is given to officers in command of Squadrons, CSS members, and long stand starship COs. The following is the suggested criteria for promotion to Commodore:
• Holding the rank grade of Captain
• Good service as a Squadron Commander
• Good service as a CSS member/Jr.CSS member
• Long and outstanding service as a starship CO
• Providing Section 47 with a great service.


Rear Admiral Grade
The rank grade of Rear Admiral is the third meritorious rank awarded in Section 47 and is also one of the most senior. This rank is typically only awarded to long serving Squadron Commanders, Fleet COs and long serving CSS members. The following is the suggested criteria for promotion to Rear Admiral:
• Holding the rank grade of Commodore
• Assigned as a Fleet CO
• Long and outstanding service as a CSS member/Jr.CSS member
• Providing Section 47 with a great service.


Vice Admiral Grade
The rank grade of Vice Admiral is the fourth meritorious rank awarded in Section 47 and is also one of the most senior and reserved. This rank is typically only awarded to long standing Fleet COs and CSS members. The following is the suggested criteria for promotion to Vice Admiral:
• Holding the rank grade of Rear Admiral
• Long and outstanding service as a Fleet CO
• Long and outstanding service as a CSS member
• Providing Section 47 with an outstanding service



Admiral Grade
The rank grade of Admiral is the fifth meritorious rank awarded in Section 47 and is for many the last rank achievable without further position promotion. This rank is typically only awarded to very long serving Fleet COs and CSS members. The following is the criteria for promotion to Admiral Grade:
• Holding the rank grade of Vice Admiral
• Dedicated service as either a Fleet CO or CSS member for a great period of time
• Providing Section 47with an outstanding service


Fleet Admiral Grade
The rank grade of Fleet Admiral is the sixth meritorious rank awarded in Section 47, it is also the second most senior rank in the site. This rank can only awarded to the Site XO and Site SSO. The following is the criteria for promotion to Fleet Admiral Grade:
• Holding the rank grade of Admiral
• Appointment as Site XO
• Outstanding service as Site Second Officer.


Section Admiral Grade
The rank grade of Section Admiral is the seventh and final meritorious rank awarded in Section 47. It is the most senior rank in the site and is only awarded to the Site CO. The only criterion for promotion to this rank is assignment as Site CO.


General rules:
• The criterion provided here is only a guide and the CSS may decide to promote any officer to any rank that it feels is appropriate. The Section Admiral must agree that such promotion is in fact appropriate.
• No officer should be promoted more than once every 12 months. The Section Admiral may authorise a member to be promoted more than this, but only with the majority support of the CSS.
• No officer should consider themselves to have an automatic right to promotion, CSS, and CSS alone, will decide when an officer is deserving of promotion.
• Only one or more of the cirteri needs to be met in order for a member to be considered for promotion, although more may need to be met to actually be promoted.
